Well, we have built a Windows asynch program (which does VT220, VT100, etc..
and X/Y/Zmodem, Kermit, CISB+) and were thinking about adding a "telnet"
mode to the Windows version (the Windows NT version already has it for free
from NT itself). This is a commercial program though. Not freeware. Not
shareware.

Yea, it has ZMODEM. We are just wandering if there is a market for such a
product.
: Hell, I just want a good working stand alone telnet that I can mud with.
: I can not even get the netmanag telnet to work well for me... :(

MTU stands for Maximum Transmission Unit, sent by client to server, in this
case set for max of the slip server, it will be acting like a client for your
phone line, for ethernet cards in slip server around 1024 is nice, 1500 only
for the seriously demented looking for a flaky connection.
MSS stands for Maximum Segment Size, tells TCP layer largest chunk of a
message or program to hand off to IP layer. IP adds to: and from: IP
addressing info, and sometimes how to get there. Same size as MTU less 40
bytes for the IP info which gets stuck on top, total equals MTU size.
RWIN stands for Window size, indicates how big an MTU receiver buffer to set
aside in client, machine dependent, set this for slip server capacity, trial
and error, but RWIN=MTU always works, tweak up in multiples of MTU size,
larger not always better 4XMTU usually limit.
On slip client at home set MTU=256, MSS=256-40=216, RWIN=256. A dedicated
line has full attention of server so these variables make practically no
difference. High speed modems use their own form of buffering transparent to
TCP/IP or SLIP connections. However 256 might shave off a millisec or two as
most compression schemes work in multiples of 256 bytes.
The CSLIP option takes advantage of the fact a SLIP connection is by
definition a dedicated line and throws away most of the IP header, saving you
big transfers of worthless bytes. However, SLIP server must do this first, and
your home machine must expect this, will still work if home machine ignores,
usually, but wastes milliseconds.

Subject: slip problem
I have a problem inititating any kind of slip (actually CSLIP) connection,
since many people here use it I thought I would post would happens and
see if anybody has any ideas......
here is what happens when I log in:
dialup>slip
Entering SLIP mode.
Your IP address is my.ip.# MTU is 1500 bytes
Header compression will match your system.
@E[\@Y!!"~`,"~A"~ [\
(@
that string of "garbage" is repeated every 15 seconds or so, no matter what
software I try, it keeps sending every few seconds, over and over......
anybody have any ideas as to what this could be?
(btw: this occures at 14.4/LAPM/V.42,14.4/None and at 2400 baud)
thanks much!
